Ferrari F1

Ferrari was started by a young man called Enzo Ferrari who was born in Modena Italy, in 1898. He started out by working for fiat becoming head of the sales department there. Then in 1929 Scuderia Ferrari was set up. It was a relatively small company that loaned cars to race for their members. In 1933 Scuderia Ferrari became Independent and therefore had no more connection with Alfa Romeo (even though essentially building their cars still). During World War 2 the company moved from Modena to Maranello and that would be the site where the first ever Ferrari was built. This was the start of something big, and Ferrari continues to build their cars today only temporarily stopped when their founder Enzo Ferrari died in 1988.

First F1 Title
Formula 1 was set up in 1950 as the top of motorsport. Initially when it was set up Alfa Romeo dominated winning every race in the season. But then in 1951 at the British grand prix Ferrari managed to get their first win with Froilan Gonzalez (This to be the first of many). This was a great achievement for Ferrari and would continue over the next two years. In 1952 Alberto Ascari a fairly young man who joined Ferrari would dominate the whole year winning every race he competed in. (as Alfa Romeo couldn’t fund the design of a new car). This brought the title to Ferrari and the driver’s title to Alberto Ascari. In 1953 the same happened again this time Ascari winning every race but one that went to Englishman Mike Hawthorn. This bought the first Back to Back champion that was Alberto Ascari.

Last Season
The 2007 season saw Ferrari take both the driver’s and constructor’s titles in a year of controversy and exciting racing. While Raikkenon had a resurgent charge at the end of the season to lift the title, Ferrari will be disappointed with the exploits of co-driver Felipe Massa. The ‘spygate’ saga dominated Ferrari’s season as they attempted to restrict McLaren’s dominance through the courts rather than on the track. 2007 will be remembered as the year where Ferrari snuck a win in the last races of the season. The consistency of Raikkenon was the main contributing factor to the title although taking advantage of the McLaren drivers squabbling amongst themselves was also a considerable reason. A triumphant year all round for the team that has the longest heritage in the world of Formula 1.

New Season
After the success of last year, Ferrari will be trying to stamp their dominance over the rest of the field. Sticking with the same drivers as last season, the hope will be that Raikkenon can claim another title while Massa will be able to improve on what was a mediocre season last year. During winter testing the Ferrari has proved to be the most successful car on the track. Although the McLaren can compete in terms of speed, through corners and in a straight line; throughout a season where traction control systems have been banned, the easy handling of the Ferrari will undoubtedly become apparent and provide beneficial results.
